European Institute of Classical Osteopathy

The CAO is proud to be in association with the EICO. The CAO supports academic exchange and student placement both in Italy and here in Canada. With an emphasis on the correct principles and practices of early American osteopathy the Italian college continues to raise the standard of European Osteopathy.

We are happy to introduce the first Italian institute of Classical Osteopathy, created in collaboration with The Institute of Classical Osteopathy (U.K.), the Canadian and Japanese schools of Classical Osteopathy, the Medical Society of Italian Biotherapy; the Institute will have the collaboration of international teachers.

The school’s objective is to offer Osteopathy courses in Italy in line with European University criteria and based on the philosophy of “Classical Osteopathy.”

Classical Osteopathy remains true to the origins of Osteopathy, that is the principles and practice laid down by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still and Dr. John Martin Littlejohn, true pioneers at the end of the XIX century and the most enlightened representatives and precursors of this branch of medicine. They bequeathed a bibliographical patrimony of great scientific value which is still well preserved and actively studied in The Institute of Classical Osteopathy in Maidstone (England)

“We owe a lot to John Wernham; he defended the original concepts and principles of Osteopathy tenaciously, remaining faithful to the ideas of its founders and handing them down to us with passion” declares Francesco Reforzo, President of the Italian Association of Classical Osteopathy and founder of the European Institute of Classical Osteopathy-Italia.

After receiving the teachings of John Wernham, the first Italian students who graduated from The Institute of Classical Osteopathy in Maidstone felt the desire to create a Postgraduate course in Italy with the collaboration and experience of their English colleagues.

The Italian Association of Classical Osteopathy was founded in Sanremo in March 2006 and now has its offices in Ventimiglia (IM); in January 2009 AIOC (Italian Association of Classical Osteopathy) organised the first Italian Postgraduate course in Classical Osteopathy which was received with much interest and approval.

On the wake of this recent success we have founded the European Institute of Classical Osteopathy (E.I.C.O.), with the objective of offering in Italy a thorough and complete course to all those people who wish to learn the true roots of Osteopathy. We have meticulously integrated the principles of the most important recognised European schools with the more classical but always relevant principles of classical Osteopathy that have been handed down to us.

Our inspiration for this project is to preserve the great treasure of philosophical ideas, principles and techniques that risk being lost, to promote a culture of Osteopathy in Italy and to provide students with a thorough and complete education.
