The CAO Commitment

How is the CAO different from other programs?

The CAO is committed to offering a supportive and dynamic learning environment to all its students. The faculty and staff are open and available for you; this includes regularly scheduled free study groups and correspondence by e-mail in between classroom modules; this assures academic support and communication between classes.

Some other Osteopathic courses and programs offer technique-based seminars taught by different instructors leaving the student with a variety of manual procedures, but lacking a good knowledge of integrated Osteopathic manual treatment. The CAO differs from this common model as our professors provide seamless instruction by incorporating our science programs and our Osteopathic principles and practices classes concurrently and synergistically. The advantage of this unified approach is a continuity of thought and a cohesive, clear understanding of the Osteopathic concept. We emphasize as integrated Osteopathic treatment approach, this way the techniques simply become tools used by the Osteopath to achieve the desired clinical outcome.

Devoted to saving and promoting classical Osteopathic ideals and gems, the CAO continues to seek out and find Osteopathic treasure from the past. We then correlate it to modern day science and understanding and incorporate this clinically proven information, along with its applications, into the curriculum for our students to learn and utilize in their clinical practices. The goal is to bring Osteopathy to its full power and provide relief to those who are ill and suffering.

The charts shown below depict the differences in Osteopathic thought and practice from the early days in Osteopathy to the modern era. The chart on the left demonstrates the language and methods used in treatment from the early classical days of Osteopathy. The chart on the right illustrates the methods commonly used in the treatment in the modern era. The classical elements have proven clinical value, but have been all but lost in the modern curriculum. The CAO has preserved these methods and added to them the modern elements to give maximum clinical effectiveness.
